Concept testing with the reasons behind every score
Concept testing in LetsFindWhy puts your idea in front of customers during a video interview. Add the design, landing page or pricing table to the discussion guide as an image, ask people to rate it on screen, and let the AI moderator ask what made them choose that score. You get the number and the reason side by side for every respondent.
Why a survey is not enough
A survey tells you that 40% of people preferred option B. It cannot tell you that half of them misread the headline. Interviews catch that, but running twenty of them by hand for every round of concepts takes weeks.
Pairing each rating with a spoken “why”, asked the same way every time, gives you both: answers you can count, and the words behind them.
How to run a concept test in LetsFindWhy
Add each concept as an image Upload a screen design, ad or pricing page to an Image question. Tick Show on whiteboard and respondents can draw on it to circle what they would change.
Ask for a rating, then ask why A Rating or choice question appears on the respondent’s screen. Set it to Answer, then ask why, and the AI moderator follows up on the score: “You said 3. What would make it a 5?”
Run the sessions Let the AI moderator run one-to-one sessions at any hour, or moderate yourself while the product team watches and comments in the Backroom, the observers-only chat the respondent never sees.
Compare the concepts The Responses page charts every rating question, splits the chart by any other answer, and lines up each person’s own words beside their score. Export CSV keeps the numbers and the reasons together.
Example concept test guide
- Before we look at anything: how do you choose a tool like this today? (Open ended)
- Take a look at this page. What do you think it is offering, and to whom? (Image)
- From 1 to 5, how clear is what this product does? The AI then asks what would make it clearer. (Rating or choice)
- Circle anything on the page that confuses you or that you would change. (Whiteboard)
- Which of the two versions would you be more likely to try? (Rating or choice)
- What would stop you from signing up today? (With follow-ups)
Tips for better results
- Ask what people think something is before you tell them. Their first guess is often the most useful answer in the session.
- Show one concept per question. If you test several, swap their order for half of the interviews so the first one does not set the bar for the rest.
- Let stakeholders suggest probes in the Backroom while a session runs. A moderator can type a new question into the guide mid-session, and the AI moderator asks it in order.
Frequently asked questions
Can I test several concepts in one interview?
Yes. Each concept is its own Image or Rating or choice question in the guide, and the Responses page charts each one separately.
Can I run a concept test with a group?
Yes. In a group session, a rating question goes on every respondent’s screen at once and works as a live poll. With more than one respondent, the AI moderator asks people to tap their answers rather than say them.
Which image formats can I use?
PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, up to 10 MB each. The images are resized and compressed for the session automatically.
